Karen Salandy was head make up for José Hendo during the judging process in the day followed up by the awards ceremony which included a catwalk showing the collections of all participating designers.
This has been an exciting year for both creatives. Karen has been shortlisted twice for Best Make Up Artist at the BEFFTA award to then turn around being awarded with the even more prestigious Honourary Beauty Icon Award for her body of work and years in the industry. Jose has also been shortlisted for Best Female Designer before winning the Radical Designer Award. Here are some images backstage of the event:

Karen Salandy was awarded with The Beffta Beauty Icon award 2011. In a special categrory for her creative contribution to the industry for over 20yrs. This is indeed a great honour and Karen would like to thank the BEFFTA Awards, it's founder Pauline Long and it's members for the recognition and presenting her with this prestigious award. Karen's work has been widely published and seen on LFW catwalks, TV and she is often working with various beauty pageants providing the next generation with so much more than just make up. Apart from simply working on beautifying celebrities with her exceptional artistry; Karen worked on the lines of Fashion Icon and first African-American Supermodel, business woman and author Naomi Sims and the international Italian movie star Isabella Rosilini. Salandy trained with Rosillini in Paris. Rossellini is noted for her 14-year tenure as a Lancôme model, and for her roles in films such as Blue Velvet and Death Becomes Her. In addition Karen was instrumental to launching their respective cosmetic and beauty lines in the UK training make-up artists across the country. Thank you BEFFTA for recognizing Karen's work alongside and with these historical pioneers of the beauty, fashion and movie industry!!!!

Tomorrow ITV2 will air the first episode of Models, Misfits & Mayhem with the multi-award-winning Mr Fierce Catwalk Professor l'extraordinaire. I am Mr Fierce's personally assigned make-up artist for this entire season.

http://www.itv.com/modelsmisfitsandmayhem/about/abouttheshow :

Models, Misfits & Mayhem follows all the drama at Britain’s busiest modelling school – The London School of Modelling.

The school, run by no-nonsense principal Debbie King, trains up wannabe models (male and female) and sends the best off to castings for a wide variety of jobs, including TV commercials, magazine shoots, catwalk shows and much more.

Each week, we follow 12 aspiring models as they come through the doors for an intense and challenging four-day modelling course.

We’ll follow the pupils as they are put through their paces in a variety of imaginative classes - and we’ll also leave the school when one or more of them wins the prize of a magazine shoot, fashion show or commercial.

It could be you!

Would be models from all over the country are desperate for Debbie and the team to sprinkle some stardust over them – and throughout the series we'll allow viewers to apply via uploading videos over the web.
